# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It takes longer to decide what to watch on TV than it does to make this compote from start to finish.
  • You can use whatever berries you have without worrying about perfect ripeness or fancy varieties.
  • The warm fruit feels comforting in a way cold toppings just cant match, especially on chilly mornings.
02 -
  • Frozen berries release more liquid than fresh, so expect a saucier compote unless you add the cornstarch.
  • Taste before you serve because some berries are tart and others are sweet, and you might want to adjust the sugar or lemon at the end.
03 -
  • If you want some berries to stay whole and chunky, add half the berries at the start and the other half after a few minutes of cooking.
  • Taste the compote while its still warm because the sweetness becomes less pronounced as it cools, so adjust the sugar before you turn off the heat.
